Meerut, August 26, 2025 – Tension gripped Meerut city yesterday as Sachin Sirohi, the national president of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Suraksha Sangathan, reported receiving a chilling death threat on Facebook. The message, which called for “sar tan se juda” – a phrase meaning beheading, came from an account named Sader Ali. This has sparked outrage among Hindu groups, who see it as a direct attack linked to Sirohi’s recent push for people to watch the movie Udaipur Files. The film tells the story of Kanhaiya Lal, the tailor brutally murdered in Udaipur in 2022 for allegedly supporting a social media post.
The trouble started over the weekend. On Saturday, August 23, Sirohi organized a special screening of Udaipur Files at PVS Mall in Meerut. He had been vocal about the film, urging locals to see it to understand the dangers of religious extremism. “This movie is about justice for Kanhaiya Lal and a wake-up call for all Hindus,” Sirohi said in a statement before the event. The screening drew a crowd, but it also stirred up backlash. A video soon went viral showing people burning and stomping on the film’s posters in what was claimed to be Meerut’s Islamabad area. Sirohi shared the clip on his own social media, calling it an act of hatred and anti-national behavior.
By Sunday, things escalated when the threat appeared on Facebook. Sirohi, fearing for his life, compared it to the fate of Kanhaiya Lal. “They want to silence voices like mine, just like they did in Udaipur,” he told reporters outside the Civil Lines police station. He rushed to file a complaint, joined by supporters from various Hindu outfits. They protested at both Civil Lines and Lisari Gate police stations, demanding an immediate FIR against the account holder and strict action. The group even gave the police a 24-hour deadline to arrest the culprit, warning of bigger protests if ignored.
Police acted quickly on the poster-burning incident. Four people, including a local councilor, were arrested late Sunday for setting the posters on fire and shouting slogans that police called “anti-national.” An FIR was lodged under sections for hurting religious feelings and promoting enmity. Meerut SSP Vipin Tada confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing for the threat case too. “We take such threats seriously and are tracing the Facebook account. No one will be allowed to spread fear,” he assured. UP Police has also been tagged in social media posts by Sirohi’s supporters, calling on CM Yogi Adityanath for better protection.
This isn’t the first brush with trouble for Sirohi. Just weeks ago, on August 5, he was placed under house arrest by police when he tried to meet CM Yogi to discuss Hindu issues like cow shelters and forced conversions. He accused authorities of trying to mute Hindu voices back then. Now, with this threat, many in the community worry about rising tensions between groups in Meerut, a city with a history of communal friction.
Experts say social media is fueling these clashes. “Platforms like Facebook make it easy to send anonymous threats, but they also help expose them,” noted a local activist. Sirohi’s organization has been active in campaigns for Hindu safety, often clashing with opposing views. As the probe continues, Sirohi has appealed directly to the CM for security and swift justice. “I won’t back down from fighting for what’s right,” he vowed.
