Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, August 26, 2025 – A heartbreaking incident has shaken Aligarh’s Jalalpur village, where a man, Sanjay Singh, consumed pesticide on a Facebook Live video after his wife, Anita, after 14 years of marriage, left him for another man. The distressing event, which took place on August 25, 2025, has sparked conversations about mental health and marital struggles in the region.
Sanjay, a resident of Jalalpur in Aligarh district, streamed his anguish to the world, explaining how his wife, a mother of their four children, had eloped with a man from another community on August 6. Family members tracked the couple to Prayagraj, where they confronted Anita’s companion and brought her back to her parents’ home in Bil Khora village. Despite this, Sanjay claimed his wife refused to return to him and was adamant about staying with the other man. He also alleged that both his family and his in-laws were pressuring him to accept her back, which he found unbearable.
In the emotional video, Sanjay, visibly upset, said, “My wife doesn’t support me and wants to live with someone else. I can’t take this pain anymore.” He purchased pesticide from a shop near Gomat Chowraha and consumed it during the livestream, appealing to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for action against his wife and in-laws.
After ingesting the pesticide, Sanjay called his brother Jitesh, who alerted the police through Dial 112. Officers rushed to the scene and took Sanjay to Khair Community Health Centre in critical condition. Due to the severity of his state, doctors transferred him to JN Medical College for advanced treatment. Aligarh police confirmed they are investigating the incident while Sanjay remains under medical care.
The incident has sparked concern among locals and on social media, with many expressing sympathy for Sanjay and highlighting the need for mental health support. Others urged authorities to address the underlying issues of family disputes and emotional distress.
This case underscores the growing challenges of mental health crises in India, where societal pressures and personal struggles can lead to desperate actions. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances, and Sanjay’s condition remains critical as the community hopes for his recovery.
