Rampur, August 21, 2025 – A father’s hope to mend his daughter’s troubled marriage turned fatal in Silai Bada village, Rampur, leaving a family shattered. Afser Ali, a 55-year-old from Siraskheda, Moradabad, was killed in a brutal assault by his daughter’s in-laws, with two relatives also injured in the chaos.
Afser’s daughter, Armana, wed to Nadeem from Silai Bada since 2020, had been struggling with ongoing marital disputes, reportedly fueled by dowry demands. Determined to resolve the tension, Afser, accompanied by his wife Shanno and sister Akhtari, arrived at Nadeem’s home for a village meeting. What they expected to be a tough but peaceful talk exploded into violence.
Locals recounted the chilling scene:, Nadeem’s family grabbed a shovel and sharp weapons, attacking without warning. Gunfire echoed, heightening the terror. Afser was struck repeatedly with a shovel, collapsing lifeless on the ground. Akhtari and Shanno suffered serious injuries, rushed first to Milak hospital and later to the district hospital for urgent care.
A relative, Islam, shared that the family had sought police help beforehand, informing the local outpost. They were advised to negotiate and told officers would follow, but no one arrived in time. “That delay cost his life,” Islam said, voice breaking.
Police have since sent Afser’s body for a post-mortem and are hunting the attackers. SP Vidya Sagar Mishra confirmed the violence erupted during a heated marriage dispute discussion, promising swift arrests. The tragedy has left villagers with discussion about the dangers of unresolved family conflicts and dowry disputes. Armana, now grieving her father, faces an uncertain future.
