Rampur, August 18, 2025: In a disturbing incident in Rampur’s Kemri police station area, a man named Wasim, working at a Jansewa Kendra, allegedly deceived a married woman by posing as Rahul, trapping her in a romantic relationship. According to the woman’s husband, Wasim manipulated her into a physical relationship, secretly recorded explicit photos and videos, and used them to blackmail and sexually assault her repeatedly. The Kemri police have arrested Wasim following the husband’s complaint on August 14, 2025, and he has been sent to jail on court orders.
The victim’s husband, a resident of a local neighborhood, stated that Wasim, living at the village head’s house in Mudiya Kalan, befriended his wife by falsely introducing himself as Rahul. He allegedly coerced her into consuming intoxicating drugs, leading to her mental disbalance. The husband claimed his wife, affected by the drugs, stopped recognizing their minor son and neglected his care. Wasim reportedly pressured her to mix sleeping pills in the family’s food, allowing him to enter their home at night to assault her. The husband also alleged that the village head was complicit and that Wasim threatened to kill him when confronted.
Kemri SHO Himanshu Chauhan confirmed that a case was registered under relevant sections, and Wasim is now in custody. The police are investigating further to ensure justice.
This isn’t the first such case in the district. In January 2025, a Bengaluru woman reported a similar ordeal to the police after Hindu organization leaders intervened. She was deceived by a man named Rashid from Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, who posed as Ravi, married her in a temple in Kemri, and later lived with her in Bengaluru.
These incidents have raised concerns about women’s safety in the region. Local authorities are urging residents to stay cautious and verify identities in relationships to prevent such exploitation. The case underscores the need for stricter measures against deceit and blackmail, with police intensifying efforts to curb such crimes.
