Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, August 18, 2025 – A shocking incident has rocked Meerut, where an Indian Army soldier, identified as Kapil Kavid, was allegedly assaulted by toll booth staff at the Bhuni toll plaza on the Meerut-Karnal highway in Uttar Pradesh. Kapil, a member of the Rajput Regiment stationed in Srinagar, was on his way to Delhi airport with his cousin to catch a flight back to duty when the altercation turned violent on Sunday evening.
The trouble started when Kapil, stuck in a long queue at the toll plaza, showed his Army ID and asked for a quicker passage, citing his village’s toll-exempt status. A heated argument broke out with the toll workers, who reportedly refused to let him through. Things escalated fast, and at least five staff members attacked Kapil and his cousin. Disturbing videos circulating online show Kapil pinned to a pole, beaten with sticks, and even threatened with a brick while toll workers hurled abuses.
The incident has sparked outrage across the country. Kapil’s family and locals rushed to the scene, demanding action. Meerut police acted swiftly, arresting four toll workers after reviewing CCTV footage, and are hunting for others involved. “Kapil was just trying to get to his flight. This kind of violence is unacceptable,” said Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Superintendent of Police (Rural), confirming a case has been registered at Sarurpur police station.
The attack has raised serious questions about toll plaza operations, with some calling them hubs for lawlessness. For now, Kapil is recovering, but the incident has left a mark on the community. People are calling for stricter oversight of toll staff and better respect for those serving the nation. Police say more arrests are likely as they dig deeper into the footage.
