Varanasi, August 12, 2025 – A shocking event has shaken the students of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) once again. Late last night, a first-year MBBS student was reportedly molested by three young men on a bike while she was heading back to her hostel. This happened right inside the campus, raising fresh worries about safety for students, especially women.
The young woman had been studying at the cyber library and was walking back to hostel with three friends around midnight. Near the MBBS faculty crossing, the three guys on the bike started making rude comments and then grabbed at the student, trying to harass her. When her friends stepped in to stop them, the men turned violent and beat them up. It all sounds like a nightmare, and it’s hard to believe this is happening in a place meant for learning.
One of the student’s friends filed a formal complaint at the Lanka police station right away. That’s where things stand now – an FIR has been registered for molestation and assault. The police are treating this seriously, especially given BHU’s past troubles with similar cases. Remember, this university has seen protests before over women’s safety, like back in 2017 and more recently in 2023 with the IIT-BHU incident.
BHU has a huge campus, home to thousands of students from all over India. The medical school, IMS-BHU, where this girl studies, is one of the top spots for MBBS. But incidents like this make parents and kids think twice about how safe it really is.
