Lucknow, August 4, 2025 – In a dramatic late-night operation, Ghazipur police arrested Umar Ansari, the younger son of the late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, from Lucknow’s Darul Shafa area on Sunday. The arrest, carried out at an MLA residence, has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh, adding another chapter to the Ansari family’s legal troubles. Umar faces allegations of forging documents to reclaim property seized under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act.
According to the Superintendent of Police, Ghazipur, Umar allegedly submitted fake documents to a local court, including forged signatures of his mother, Afsa Ansari, who is currently absconding with a Rs 50,000 bounty on her head. The property in question was confiscated due to its links to Mukhtar Ansari’s criminal activities. Police claim Umar’s actions were a calculated attempt to illegally regain control of the seized assets. A case has been filed at Mohammadabad Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of cheating and forgery. This marks Umar’s sixth legal case, with prior charges ranging from election code violations to property disputes.
The arrest comes months after Mukhtar Ansari’s death in March 2024 from a cardiac arrest while serving a life sentence. Umar’s elder brother, Abbas Ansari, a former MLA, was recently disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly following a hate speech conviction. The Ansari family’s legal woes continue to dominate headlines, with Afsa Ansari still on the run, further complicating their situation.
Police are continuing their investigation, and Umar is expected to face court proceedings soon. The case has reignited debates about the Ansari family’s influence in eastern Uttar Pradesh and the state’s crackdown on organized crime.
