The long wait is over. The 20th installment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM‑Kisan) scheme has officially been scheduled for release on August 2, 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will disburse the funds during a public event in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency.
Who will benefit — and how much?
Under this installment, a total of ₹20,500 crore will be credited to the bank accounts of around 9.7 crore eligible farmers across India. Each farmer will receive ₹2,000 directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Since the launch of the scheme in 2019, the government has transferred approximately ₹3.69 lakh crore to beneficiaries through 19 installments.
Why the date changed
Earlier expectations had pointed to a June or July release, but Prime Minister Modi’s foreign tours to the UK and Maldives caused a delay. The final confirmation now brings relief to farmers who had been waiting over four months for the payment.
What farmers must do to avoid missing the payment
The government has highlighted several mandatory steps that farmers should complete before August 2:
a. Complete e‑KYC verification via the PM‑Kisan portal or at nearby CSCs
b. Ensure Aadhaar is linked to the bank account
c. Make sure land records are accurate and updated
d. Register for a Farmer ID if not yet created
If these conditions aren’t met in time, a farmer could miss out on the installment. The government has also noted that amounts received by ineligible individuals in prior rounds (about ₹400 crore worth) will be recovered to prevent misuse.
Role of officials and scheme management
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review preparations for the rollout. He urged the use of local workers—from Krishi Vigyan Kendras to gram panchayats—to ensure that every eligible farmer receives correct information and assistance in meeting the eligibility requirements.
What is PM‑Kisan, and why it matters
The PM‑Kisan scheme provides ₹6,000 annually to small and marginal farmers in three installments of ₹2,000 each, aimed at easing farm-related financial burdens. Introduced in early 2019, the initiative has since become a key pillar of livelihood support for millions of rural households.
