Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, August 4, 2025 – In a generous Raksha Bandhan gesture, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has announced free travel for women passengers across the state. This year, women will be able to travel without any fare on UPSRTC and city bus service buses from 6 AM on August 8 to 12 midnight on August 10, 2025.
The announcement was made officially by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) on August 3, following the Chief Minister’s directive. The initiative aims to ensure safe, accessible, and cost-free travel for women visiting their families during the Raksha Bandhan festival.
In view of Raksha Bandhan, arrangements will be made to provide free travel for all mothers and sisters on UPSRTC and city bus services from 6 AM on August 8 to midnight on August 10,” said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
He further directed officials to ensure that a sufficient number of buses are deployed in both urban and rural areas so that no commuter faces inconvenience. The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for smooth traffic flow in cities, instructing authorities to prevent congestion and keep roads clear. Additionally, he ordered increased patrolling along state highways and major routes to maintain safety and order during the festive period.
This Raksha Bandhan gift aligns with the Yogi government’s ongoing focus on women’s welfare. Previous initiatives include Mission Shakti, free scooty schemes for students, and women-only pink buses in select cities.
The move has been widely appreciated by the public, especially in rural areas where women often rely on government transport for long-distance travel. Many women called it a thoughtful gift and a real support for festival mobility.
