Unnao – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made history today by inaugurating India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-augmented multidisciplinary university, the Chandigarh University campus, in Unnao. Located on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, this high-tech campus promises to transform education by blending modern technology with job-focused courses. The event marks a major milestone for Uttar Pradesh’s education system, with CM Yogi calling it a step toward a “developed India.” Here’s the latest on this landmark day, with updates as the story unfolds.
A New Era for Education
The Chandigarh University campus in Unnao, spread across 100 acres near Nawabganj, is designed to prepare students for the demands of the 21st century. Speaking at the inauguration, CM Yogi described the university as a gift to Unnao and a symbol of India’s growing strength in education and technology. “This university will open new doors for our youth, combining modern education with our cultural values,” he said. The campus will offer 43 undergraduate and postgraduate programs across six fields: engineering, business, health sciences, humanities, liberal arts, and law, all enhanced by cutting-edge technology.
The Chief Minister highlighted how this institution aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global hub for technology and innovation. “Unnao, known for its cultural and historical identity, is now a beacon of progress,” Yogi said, addressing a large crowd of students, educators, and local leaders. He also praised the state’s efforts in creating an environment that attracts top educational institutions, noting that 16 new universities and over 250 colleges have been established in Uttar Pradesh in the last seven years.
Why This University Stands Out
Unlike traditional universities, Chandigarh University’s Unnao campus focuses on technology-driven learning. All courses will incorporate advanced tools to equip students with skills for global industries. Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, who was present at the event, said, “This campus will prepare students to meet the needs of a fast-changing world. It’s a proud moment for Uttar Pradesh.” The university is part of the state’s broader push to establish India’s first AI City in Lucknow, a 70-acre project that has already attracted significant investment.
The campus, located on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, is expected to make quality education more accessible for students in Uttar Pradesh. “Now, our youth don’t have to leave the state to get world-class education,” Upadhyay added. The university’s focus on job-oriented courses is also seen as a boost for employment opportunities, aligning with the state’s goal of contributing to India’s $5 trillion economy by 2047.
Reactions and Security Arrangements
The inauguration drew a large crowd, including students, parents, and local residents, who expressed excitement about the new opportunities. “This is a game-changer for Unnao,” said a student from a nearby college. “We’re thrilled to have such a modern university close to home.”
Local leaders, including Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu, who is also the Chancellor of Chandigarh University, thanked CM Yogi for his support in bringing this project to life. “Uttar Pradesh is becoming a growth engine for India, and this campus is proof of that,” Sandhu said.
The event included the launch of the university’s web portal and prospectus for the 2025-26 academic session, showcasing its futuristic vision.
District officials, including Unnao’s District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi, ensured tight security and smooth arrangements for the Chief Minister’s visit, which also coincided with Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations in the state.
Looking Ahead
The Chandigarh University campus is expected to set a new standard for higher education in India, with its focus on technology and global skills. As Uttar Pradesh continues to invest in education and innovation, the state is positioning itself as a hub for learning and development. “This is just the beginning,” said CM Yogi, expressing confidence that the university will shape the future of India’s youth.
For now, Unnao is celebrating its newfound spotlight, with residents hopeful that the university will bring jobs, opportunities, and pride to the region. As one local teacher put it, “This is a day we’ll remember for years to come.”
