
Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh – A 75‑year‑old woman lost her life and her daughter‑in‑law was critically injured when heavy rain weakened their mud‑walled home, causing it to collapse in Suriyawan area of Bhadohi district on Thursday evening.
Tragedy in Suriyawan
According to police, the incident took place in Gopipur village in Suriyawan area. Ranjana Devi, 75, and her daughter‑in‑law Sarita Devi (around 40) were inside the kitchen preparing dinner at Vijay Shankar Gautam’s home when the soaked mud wall and tin roof suddenly gave way. The collapse buried them under the debris before anyone could react.
Rescue Efforts and Hospitalisation
Neighbors rushed to the scene upon hearing the crash. They pulled both women from the rubble and took them to the district hospital. Doctors declared Ranjana Devi dead on arrival, while Sarita Devi was admitted in serious condition and remains under medical care.

Station House Officer Ajit Kumar Srivastava confirmed that Ranjana Devi’s body has been sent for post-mortem. A formal case is underway and local authorities are investigating the incident. They noted that continuous rainfall had severely weakened the structure, which lacked proper reinforcement.
