Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, August 14, 2025 – In a heartbreaking turn of events that has left the holy city of Varanasi in shock, a widow named Sona Sharma has been arrested along with her lover Faizan and his friend Rashid for the murder of her own 10-year-old son, Suraj. The police say this terrible act happened because the young boy accidentally saw his mother in a private moment with Faizan, and they worried he would tell others about their secret relationship.
Sona Sharma lost her husband in a road accident two years ago. She was living in the Ramnagar area with Suraj and her five-year-old daughter. Faizan, who lives in nearby Golaghat, had been visiting her home often, and they had started a romance. On Sunday, Suraj walked in on them in the bedroom and saw something he shouldn’t have. Scared that the boy might spill the beans to family or neighbors, the couple decided to get rid of him.
The next day, Monday evening, Faizan tricked Suraj into going with him to a quiet spot in the Bawan Bigha grounds, full of bushes. There, with Rashid’s help, they strangled the poor child until he stopped breathing. They then hid his body in the grass and left. To cover their tracks, Sona went to the Ramnagar police station late that night and reported Suraj as missing. She even claimed someone had kidnapped him, hoping to throw off any suspicion.
But the police didn’t buy it for long. They started looking into the case right away and found Suraj’s body hidden in the bushes on Tuesday night. During questioning, Sona’s story didn’t add up, she kept mentioning Faizan’s name in a weird way. The cops picked up Faizan for more talks. Late that night, while taking him back to the spot where the crime happened, Faizan tried to grab a gun from one of the officers and shoot at them. The police had no choice but to fire back, hitting him in the right leg to stop him. He was taken to the hospital, but he’s okay now.
All three, Sona, Faizan, and Rashid, are now in jail and being questioned further. The police have filed charges of murder and trying to hide evidence. Investigators think the motive was purely to keep the affair hidden. There’s no talk of money or other fights involved. The little daughter is now with relatives, and child welfare folks are checking on her. It hits hard when a mother turns against her own son.
