Varanasi, August 22, 2025 – In a heartbreaking turn of events that has left a community reeling, a 55-year-old school teacher was brutally killed over a simple argument about parking space in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi. Praveen Jha, who taught English at a well-known private school in Bhagwanpur, died after being attacked with bricks and an iron rod by three men on Thursday night. Police arrested the suspects today, bringing some quick closure to the case but raising tough questions about how everyday fights can turn deadly.
The trouble started around 8 PM in Kabir Nagar colony, where Jha lived. He got into a heated exchange with his neighbor, Adarsh Singh, 27, over where to park their vehicles. What began as words quickly escalated when Singh called in two friends – Karan Gaur, 19, from Maniar in Ballia district, and another accomplice from nearby Chandauli. Witnesses say the group ganged up on Jha, hitting him repeatedly on the head and body. A security guard tried to step in and stop the assault, but the attackers overpowered him too.
Jha suffered severe injuries, especially to his head, from the blows. Neighbors rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. His family is devastated, Jha was a dedicated teacher who had spent years shaping young minds at his school.
Police acted fast after the incident. By Friday morning, they had rounded up Singh, Gaur, and the third man based on complaints from Jha’s family and eyewitness accounts. An FIR was filed under sections for murder and assault at the local station. Investigators are looking into whether the attack was planned. CCTV footage from the area and videos circulating on social media show the chaos, helping cops build their case.
This tragedy highlights a growing worry in crowded cities like Varanasi, small disputes over space turning violent. Parking fights aren’t new, but this one ending in death has shocked locals. As of now, the accused are in custody, and a post-mortem report is expected soon to confirm the cause of death. His family demands strict punishment, hoping it sends a message that no one should lose their life over something as trivial as a parking spot.
