Jhansi, August 11, 2025 – A horrific case of honor killing has left the city of Jhansi reeling. A young man, enraged by his sister’s love affair, brutally murdered both his sister and her lover in a chilling act of violence. The accused, Arvind Kumar, aged 20, allegedly killed his 17-year-old sister and her 19-year-old boyfriend, Vishal Kumar, in a planned attack that has sparked discussions across the region.
The tragedy unfolded in the Garotha and Lahchura areas of Jhansi. Vishal, a resident of Pathrai village under the Tahrauli police station, had been in a relationship with a girl from Chandrapura village for over a year. The couple had reportedly eloped before Raksha Bandhan, prompting the girl’s family to file a complaint with the Garotha police. Despite police intervention and counseling, tensions simmered. Arvind, unable to accept his sister’s relationship, devised a deadly plan.
On August 7, Arvind lured Vishal to a secluded spot near a temple by the Dhasan River, pretending to be friendly. There, he slit Vishal’s throat with a sharp weapon and dumped his body in bushes. The body was found two days later on August 9. On Raksha Bandhan, Arvind took his sister to a remote hilly area in Garotha, claiming he wanted to celebrate the festival. Instead, he brutally killed her and left her body near a local shrine.
The girl’s father, Pappu, confirmed to police that his son committed the murders, citing shame over his daughter’s affair as the motive. The killings have left both families devastated, with villages in mourning.
Police have launched a manhunt for Arvind, who fled after the crimes. Teams are raiding possible hideouts, but he remains at large. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and forensic teams are collecting evidence. SP Rural Dr. Arvind Kumar assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
This double murder has reignited debates about honor killings and societal pressures. Such incident highlights the need for dialogue and understanding to prevent such senseless act.
