A political firestorm is brewing in Uttar Pradesh as the Samajwadi Party demands a Union Home Ministry probe into serious allegations by its former MLA, Pooja Pal. She has alleged that she is receiving death threats and stated that if anything happens to her, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will be responsible. The drama kicked off when Pooja, a three-time MLA from Chail in Kaushambi, was expelled from the party after praising Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s tough stance on crime.
It all began in the UP Assembly on August 14, when Pooja spoke out during a debate on law and order. She thanked Yogi’s government for its “zero tolerance” policy, crediting it for bringing justice in her husband Raju Pal’s 2005 murder, allegedly linked to gangster Atiq Ahmad’s brother. Hours later, SP expelled her, accusing her of “anti-party activities.” The party was already upset over her voting for BJP candidates in the February 2024 Rajya Sabha polls.
Days later, Pooja met Yogi in Lucknow, doubling down on her praise for his policies. Then, on August 23, she dropped a bombshell letter on social media, accusing Akhilesh of humiliating her and shielding mafia-linked figures in SP. She claimed her expulsion left her vulnerable to renewed threats from Atiq’s family, who she says still target her. “If anything happens to me or my family, Akhilesh Yadav will be responsible,” she wrote, stirring a massive uproar.
Akhilesh fired back, calling her claims absurd. He questioned how she could fear SP after cozying up to Yogi and suggested the BJP might be using her to tarnish his party. “How can someone meet the CM and then claim threats from us?” he asked, hinting at a possible setup. SP doesn’t trust the UP police for a fair investigation, so on August 25, national secretary Ramji Lal Suman wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding a central probe to uncover the truth. The party insists Pooja’s allegations are baseless but wants any real threats exposed and punished.
Pooja’s history adds weight to her words. Her husband’s murder pushed her into politics, and she won multiple elections. Now, her clash with SP has sparked heated debates about loyalty and safety in UP politics. With no comments yet from the Home Ministry, and Pooja standing firm, this feud is far from over. It’s a messy mix of personal loss and political games, leaving many wondering what’s next.
