Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, August 1–3, 2025: The Moradabad district administration has issued a formal eviction notice to the Samajwadi Party (SP), directing it to vacate the government bungalow allotted to the late Mulayam Singh Yadav in 1994. The party now has 30 days to hand back the property, which has served as its district office for nearly three decades.
Allotment History & Property Details
a. The bungalow (No. 4) is located in the upscale Civil Lines area near the Police Training College and spans around 1,000 sq m on state‑owned nazul land. It was leased to Mulayam Singh in July 1994 at a nominal rent of ₹250 per month.
b. After Mulayam Singh’s death on October 10, 2022, no official name transfer was requested by the SP as required under government norms. As a result, the administration has declared the original allotment void.
Administration’s Position
a. Moradabad District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh stated the property belongs to the state government, under the control of the Municipal Corporation. Its long-term use by a political party is no longer justified, and the land is now needed to serve administrative purposes.
b. The eviction notice was issued by the Additional District Magistrate (Finance), Mamta Malviya, to the SP district president, with a clear 30‑day deadline. The administration warned of further steps if the notice is not complied with.
Party Response & Legal Options
a. Samajwadi Party district head Jaiveer Singh Yadav rejected any prior notice and questioned whether similar action had been taken against other parties using government premises. He insisted the SP will challenge the order in court, calling the move politically motivated.
b. National SP president Akhilesh Yadav has reportedly been informed and is reviewing legal strategies to defend the party’s claim to the property.
Broader Context
a. The action is part of a wider government initiative to reclaim state‑owned properties improperly occupied or under-utilised. Administrators are reviewing other long-standing allocations that lack proper documentation or renewal.
b. This is not SP’s first eviction from a government‑leased building. Similar notices had been issued earlier in other districts, such as Shahjahanpur.
Conclusion
This eviction notice has raised tensions ahead of upcoming elections. With SP prepared for legal battle and officials firm on reclaiming the property, the issue is poised to become a political flashpoint in Uttar Pradesh.
