Noida, August 8, 2025 – Noida Police have nabbed two members of the infamous ‘Rat Gang,’ a group notorious for sneaking into homes and shops like rats. The arrests, made after a police encounter in Sector 24 on August 7, 2025, have put a dent in the gang’s string of burglaries across Noida’s residential sectors. The gang’s clever tactic of using taxis to scout neighborhoods during the day before striking at night has left residents shocked.
The ‘Rat Gang’ got its name from its sneaky methods. Members would roam Noida’s sectors in taxis, posing as ordinary passengers to avoid suspicion. Their goal was to spot empty homes or shops, noting who lived there, their routines, and what valuables might be inside. “They targeted locked houses to avoid getting caught,” a police officer from Sector 24 station explained. Once they were sure a place was empty, they’d return at night and steal gold, silver, diamonds, and other valuables.
The police caught the two suspects during a routine combing operation in Sector 24. When officers spotted the suspicious taxi, the gang members tried to escape, leading to a brief encounter. A large quantity of stolen jewellery, 7 watches, ₹23,766 in cash, the car used in the incident, tools, and illegal weapons recovered. One of the arrested men has a prior criminal record and has served jail time, police said.
The gang’s strategy was meticulous. They’d drive through neighborhoods, watching for homes with no activity for hours. Once they confirmed a target was empty, they’d plan their break-in, ensuring they could work without interruption. This approach helped them pull off multiple thefts across Noida, targeting upscale societies and quiet shops.
Noida Police are now questioning the suspects to uncover other thefts they may have committed in the city. The arrests are a big win for the Sector 24 police team, who are working to ensure such gangs don’t operate freely. The investigation continues as authorities aim to track down any other gang members still at large.
