Ayodhya, August 23, 2025 – The holy city of Ayodhya is gearing up for its annual Deepotsav festival, with preparations kicking off early this year. Officials have called a key meeting on August 26 to discuss the details and make sure everything runs smoothly. This comes as the city aims to make the event even bigger and brighter than before, drawing people from all over India and beyond.
The meeting, set for next Tuesday, will bring together local administrators, tourism officials, and leaders. They plan to talk about logistics, security, and ways to involve more volunteers. Sources say the focus will be on breaking last year’s record and adding new attractions to celebrate Lord Ram’s legacy. With the Ram Temple now a central spot, the festival is expected to see a huge turnout.
Deepotsav, which means festival of lights, started in Ayodhya in 2017 under the Uttar Pradesh government. It marks Lord Ram’s return from exile and ties in with Diwali celebrations. Over the years, it has grown into a massive event, with millions of earthen lamps lighting up the banks of the Saryu River. Last year, in 2024, the city set a Guinness World Record by lighting 28 lakh diyas at Ram Ki Paidi and other ghats. Artists from six countries performed Ram Leela, and there were laser shows, fireworks, and cultural dances that left everyone in awe.
This year, the festival is scheduled from October 18 to 23, with the main lamp-lighting ceremony likely on October 21, coinciding with Diwali. The event will spread across key spots like Ram Ki Paidi, Ram Katha Park, and the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Expect over 25 lakh diyas to create stunning patterns, including images from the Ramayana. There will be Ram Leela performances starting from morning, cultural music and dance shows in the afternoon, and a grand Maha Aarti on the river in the evening. Fireworks and light displays will cap off the night, turning the city into a sea of lights.
Locals are excited about the preparations. “Deepotsav brings so much joy and unity to our city,” said a shop owner near the temple. “Last year was special because it was the first after the temple opened. This time, we’re hoping for even more visitors and maybe some new world records.” Volunteers from nearby colleges and communities are already signing up to help arrange the diyas and manage crowds.
The government is pulling out all stops to make it eco-friendly too. They’ll use cow dung diyas and mustard oil to reduce pollution, just like before. Security will be tight with police, drones, and volunteers on duty. Tourists are advised to book hotels early, as places fill up fast. You can reach Ayodhya by train, plane, or road from Lucknow, which is about 130 km away. The new airport and improved roads have made it easier to get here.
For families and seniors, there are tips to make the trip comfortable, wear light clothes, carry water, and arrive early for good spots at the ghats. Photography is allowed, but respect the temple rules. If you’re interested in volunteering, check with the tourism office.
As Ayodhya continues to develop, with new parks and wider roads around Ram Path, Deepotsav is more than just a festival – it’s a symbol of faith and progress. The August 26 meeting is the first big step in making sure 2025’s event shines brighter than ever. Keep an eye out for updates, as plans might include international guests and special themes to honor the Ram Temple’s second Diwali.
With the city buzzing with energy, Deepotsav 2025 promises to be a memorable blend of tradition and spectacle. If you’re planning a visit, mark your calendars, it’s going to be lit!
