Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, April 2025 — A shocking case of violence has left the city stunned. In the Katghar police station area, near Holika Maidan, a young man named Dev Thakur was brutally attacked and beaten to death by two relatives of a BJP city councillor. The accused, identified as Hariom Singh, the councillor’s retired railway employee brother, and his nephew Monu, fled the scene immediately after the assault. The attack occurred at around 11 pm, late into the night.
Incident and Background
Witnesses say Dev had traveled to Moradabad to raise funds for his mother’s medical treatment at Rishikesh AIIMS. He reportedly had no immediate family support after the death of his father and elder brother. Tensions arose when Dev attempted to sell his inherited share of a house and requested his share from his uncle Shyam Singh. An argument followed, and that’s when Hariom and Monu intervened. Initial talks broke down, and they allegedly assaulted Dev with iron rods and wooden sticks, delivering a fatal blow to his chest. The violence happened within mere minutes, and Dev died instantly.
The police arrived soon after and secured the body, sending it for post-mortem examination. The accused, meanwhile, had already escaped.
