Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, August 25, 2025 – A quiet village in Uttar Pradesh turned into a scene of heartbreak early this morning when a simple mud house gave way under the weight of nonstop rain. In Hardauli village, under the Bindki police station area, a family of seven was asleep when their home collapsed around 4:30 AM. Three people lost their lives, and four others were badly hurt in what locals are calling a sudden nightmare brought on by the downpour that has pounded the area for over 36 hours.
The family, like many in rural parts, lived in a basic kacha makaan, a home made of mud and thatch that’s common but fragile in bad weather. Madhuri Devi, an 85-year-old widow, her 50-year-old son Mukesh, and his wife Ranno Devi, also 50, were crushed under the debris. Madhuri and Mukesh died right there at the spot, trapped as the walls caved in. Ranno fought for her life but passed away around noon while getting treatment at the district hospital. Neighbors rushed to help after hearing the crash, digging through the mud with their hands until rescue teams arrived. It was a tough sight, the whole family had been sleeping together under one roof, never expecting the rain to turn deadly.
The injured include four young family members: 11-year-old Prakhar, 13-year-old Prakashni, 22-year-old Kshamta, and 13-year-old Kamini. They were first taken to the nearby Community Health Center in Bindki, but doctors quickly sent them to Fatehpur District Hospital because of how serious their wounds were. Kamini, whose condition worried everyone the most, was later moved to Kanpur Medical College for better care. Doctors say she’s stable for now, but the next few hours are key. The others are being watched closely, with broken bones and deep cuts from the fallen roof.
Police and local officials were quick to respond. The Bindki Circle Officer shared details in a statement, confirming the three deaths, including two women, and stressing how the heavy rain weakened the old structure. A team from the revenue department showed up to check the damage and help the family. Additional District Magistrate Avnish Tripathi called it a deep loss and promised the family would get support fast. “We’ll send the compensation money to their accounts within 24 hours,” he said, trying to offer some comfort in the chaos. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem exams, and an inquiry is underway to see if anything could have been done to prevent this.
This isn’t just one family’s story, it’s a reminder of how vulnerable people are in these parts during the monsoon. Uttar Pradesh has seen heavy rains lately, flooding fields and weakening homes like this one. Many folks here still live in mud houses because they’re cheap to build, but they don’t hold up well against nature’s fury. Government programs like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana aim to replace them with stronger ones, but not everyone has gotten help yet. Locals in Hardauli say they’ve been asking for better roads and drainage for years, but the water just pools up and soaks everything.
