Ghaziabad, August 23, 2025 – A police encounter in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area left one miscreant injured on Thursday night, August 21, as officers cracked down on crime in the city. The incident, reported by the Ghaziabad police, took place during a routine checkpost operation when a suspect on a motorbike refused to stop and opened fire, leading to a dramatic chase and shootout.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Abhishek Srivastava, the police spotted a man speeding toward a checkpoint. When asked to stop for a security check, he tried to flee and fired at the officers. The police responded with retaliatory fire, hitting the suspect in the leg. He was quickly apprehended and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. “The suspect has a history of theft and snatching cases across several police stations,” Srivastava said. A stolen motorbike and an illegal pistol were recovered from the scene, strengthening the case against him.
The Ghaziabad police have been on high alert, with this being one of several encounters in recent weeks. Just days earlier, on August 18, another suspect involved in mobile snatching was injured in a similar operation in Muradnagar, with a stolen phone and weapon seized. Locals are praising the police for their swift action but are also worried about rising crime. “It’s good the police are catching these criminals, but why are there so many incidents?” asked Renu Sharma, a shopkeeper in Indirapuram.
This latest encounter follows a pattern of increased police activity, according to reports. The injured suspect’s identity is yet to be disclosed, pending further investigation. For now, residents hope these efforts will make their streets safer, but they’re calling for long-term solutions to tackle crime at its roots.
