Mirzapur – In a significant move to strengthen law and order, the Mirzapur Superintendent of Police (SP), Somen Barma, issued an order late Friday night transferring the in-charges of eight police stations across the district. The reshuffle, aimed at improving efficiency and addressing local concerns, has sparked discussions among residents and officials alike. Here’s the latest on this development, with updates as the situation evolves.
Details of the Transfers
The transfer order, issued by SP Somen Barma, affects key police stations in Mirzapur, including Vindhyachal, Kotwali Katra, and Haliya, among others. The move comes in response to recent concerns raised by public figures, including Union Minister Anupriya Patel, about issues like drug trafficking in certain areas. According to sources, the SP’s decision is part of a broader effort to ensure accountability and boost public safety in the district.
The new appointments are as follows:
a. Vaidyanath Singh has been appointed as the new in-charge of Kotwali Katra police station, replacing the previous officer who has been reassigned.
b. Ved Prakash Pandey takes charge of Vindhyachal police station, a key post given the area’s religious and cultural significance.
c. Ajit Singh is now the in-charge of Pandri police station.
d. Rajiv Srivastava has been named the new in-charge of Haliya police station.
e. Brahmadin Pandey will lead the Drummondganj police station.
f. Balmukund Mishra is now the new Inspector of Madihan Police Station.
g. Daya Shankar Ojha appointed as Station House Officer (SHO) of Rajgarh.
h. Ranvijay Singh appointed Media In-charge, Pradeep Singh becomes PRO to SSP.
These transfers were effective immediately, with officers directed to assume their new roles without delay. The order also included reassignments for some officers to the crime branch and other investigative units, signaling a focus on tackling specific local challenges.
Reasons Behind the Reshuffle
While the official order did not specify reasons for the transfers, sources suggest the move was prompted by the need to address inefficiencies and respond to public complaints. Union Minister Anupriya Patel recently raised concerns about illegal activities, particularly drug-related issues, in Vindhyachal, prompting the SP to act swiftly. “This is a step to ensure the police force remains alert and responsive,” said a senior official, speaking anonymously. The reshuffle also aligns with efforts to maintain law and order ahead of upcoming festivals and events in Mirzapur, a district known for its cultural and religious importance.
The SP’s office emphasized that the transfers were made in the public’s interest, aiming to bring fresh energy to the police stations. “We want to ensure that every officer is placed where they can serve best,” the official added. Past reshuffles in Mirzapur, such as those in 2023 and 2024, have also followed similar patterns, often triggered by the need to address crime trends or public feedback.
What’s Next?
The reshuffle is seen as part of a broader strategy to keep Mirzapur’s police force dynamic and responsive. With festivals like Navratri approaching, when Vindhyachal sees a massive influx of devotees, the new in-charges will face challenges in maintaining order. The SP’s office has promised regular reviews to ensure the transfers yield positive results.
For now, Mirzapur residents are watching closely, hopeful that the new leadership will bring stronger law enforcement and greater safety. As one local put it, “We want our police to be approachable and effective. Let’s see if these changes make a difference.”
