Kanpur, September 3, 2025 – In a case that’s shaking up trust in law enforcement, a woman in Kanpur has come forward with grave charges against local police officers, claiming they worked hand-in-glove with builders to take over her property and steal valuables from her house. Sangeeta Jaiswal, a resident of Chandra Nagar in Lal Bangla, says this nightmare unfolded back on March 29, 2025, but it’s only now that an FIR has been filed- right in the same police station where the accused officers work. This bold move has sparked outrage and calls for a thorough probe into how far corruption might run in the system.
The whole mess stems from a bitter fight over who owns a building in the area. Sangeeta and her family insist the property is theirs, backed by documents showing her husband’s investment in goods stored there – stuff worth around Rs 1.5 crore. But on that fateful day in March, she alleges a group led by builders Yogi and Dharmendra Yadav showed up with muscle, backed by police muscle. They reportedly broke down walls and doors, cleared out the place using trucks, and made off with everything inside. To add insult to injury, Sangeeta claims they even took jewelry valued at Rs 6 lakh and a cow from the premises. “It was like a robbery in broad daylight, and the police were right there helping them,” she told, her voice trembling with anger.
The accused cops? None other than Chakeri Inspector Santosh Kumar Shukla and the former in-charge of Sanigwan outpost, Ankit Khatana. Sangeeta says they didn’t just stand by – they actively helped the builders seize control. Around 40 unknown people were part of the raid, turning it into a full-blown takeover. When Sangeeta tried to fight back through complaints, she hit a wall. It took a court order to force the police to register the FIR at Chakeri station itself. Now, charges include dacoity (armed robbery), house trespass, and criminal mischief under various sections of the law.
This isn’t just about one woman’s loss – it’s exposing deeper issues in Kanpur’s real estate scene, where land grabs are all too common. Builders often eye prime spots, and whispers of police involvement aren’t new. In recent months, the city has seen a crackdown on land mafias, with arrests like that of former Press Club president Avneesh Dixit for grabbing government land worth over Rs 1,000 crore back in July 2024. His properties were seized earlier this year, showing the government’s push under CM Yogi Adityanath to clean up such messes. But if police are part of the problem, who watches the watchers?
Sangeeta’s family is devastated. Her husband had poured years of savings into that stock – construction materials, household items, you name it. Now, it’s all gone, and they’re left fighting for justice in a system that seems stacked against them. “We trusted the police to protect us, not rob us,” Sangeeta said. As of today, September 3, 2025, the investigation is just starting. Police higher-ups have stayed tight-lipped, but DCP East has assured a fair probe.
Meanwhile, the builders named in the FIR are nowhere to be found. This case echoes other scandals in Uttar Pradesh, like the 2023 arrest of SP MLA Irfan Solanki for harassing a woman to grab her plot in Jajmau. Back then, a woman named Nazir Fatima accused him and his aides of setting her house on fire. For now, residents in Lal Bangla are on edge, wondering if their homes are next. As the probe unfolds, all eyes are on Kanpur police to prove they’re on the side of justice, not the crooks.
