Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, August 5, 2025 – A tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district has sparked outrage after a man’s family dropped his body from a moving ambulance onto the Gonda-Lucknow highway to protest his death. The man, Hriday Lal, died early Monday morning following a violent dispute over a liquor deal that left him severely injured. The shocking act, captured in a viral video, shows the body being dragged along the road before being placed on the highway as family members and locals gathered to demand justice.
Hriday Lal, married just two months ago, was brutally beaten on Friday during an argument reportedly over ₹200 related to a liquor transaction. His toes were crushed, and he was rushed to a hospital in Lucknow for treatment. Despite efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday. While his body was being transported for a post-mortem, his grieving family, allegedly influenced by others, stopped the ambulance and placed his body on the road to block traffic. The video shows a man at the ambulance’s rear door pulling the stretcher out, with police scrambling to intervene. Moments later, relatives sat around the body, halting traffic to protest the lack of immediate action against the culprits.
Gonda Circle Officer Anand Kumar Rai confirmed that four suspects have been arrested, and legal proceedings are underway. “The family acted out of anger, possibly misled by others,” Rai told reporters, adding that police removed the body and ensured the last rites were conducted under supervision. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and the handling of disputes in the region.
The protest caused a brief traffic jam, disrupting travel on the busy highway. “It was heartbreaking to see,” said a bystander. “The family was in pain, but this isn’t the way to seek justice.” Authorities are investigating the circumstances of both the dispute and the protest, urging calm as tensions remain high in the area.
