Greater Noida, September 2, 2025 – In a sad turn of events that highlights the ongoing problem of dowry-related violence in India, police in Greater Noida have arrested two key suspects in the murder of a young woman in Makhanpur Bangar village. The victim, 23-year-old Sanno, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband and in-laws over demands for more dowry. This case has brought fresh attention to how greed can destroy families, even in areas close to big cities like Delhi.
Sanno’s story started like many others. She got married about two and a half years ago to Aamir, who also goes by the name Kapil, a resident of Makhanpur Bangar in the Dankaur police station area. From the beginning, her in-laws were unhappy with the dowry her family gave at the wedding. They kept pressuring her for more – specifically, an extra 5 lakh rupees in cash and a car. Sanno’s brother, Shaharukh, who lives in nearby Badoli Bangar village, says the harassment never stopped.
Things took a deadly turn on the night of August 24. According to the police report, Aamir and his family members attacked Sanno and strangled her. Her body was found the next day, and Shaharukh quickly filed a case against seven people from her husband’s side, including Aamir, his mother Jannat, and five others. The police took the body for a postmortem exam to confirm the cause of death, which showed clear signs of strangulation.
For a few days, the suspects were on the run, leaving the village in shock. Neighbors whispered about the family’s arguments, but no one expected it to end this way. Then, four days after the incident, the Dankaur police team made a breakthrough. They tracked down Aamir and Jannat, arresting them on charges of dowry harassment and murder under relevant sections of the BNS. The two were brought before a local court, where a judge ordered them to be sent to jail while the investigation continues. “We have strong evidence from the complaint and the medical report,” said Munendra Singh, the officer in charge at Dankaur station. “The search is on for the other five accused. We won’t let them get away.”
This arrest comes as a small relief to Sanno’s family, who are still grieving. Shaharukh spoke out, saying he hopes justice will be served quickly. Dowry deaths are not new in Uttar Pradesh or India as a whole. Every year, thousands of women face abuse or worse because of this old custom. Just last week, another similar case in Greater Noida made headlines – a woman named Nikki was set on fire by her in-laws over a huge dowry demand of 36 lakh rupees. In that incident, the husband was shot in the leg during a police chase, and more arrests followed.
As the investigation goes on, Sanno’s family waits for closure. Her death is a reminder that behind every statistic on dowry violence, there’s a real person and a broken home. Hopefully, this case will push more people to speak out and change things for the better.
