Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh – In a shocking incident that has left many people talking about ride safety, police in Greater Noida arrested a cab driver named Nasim on Friday after he led them on a wild chase with a family trapped inside his car. The event unfolded on Thursday evening when the driver, booked through a ride-hailing app, picked up a couple and their child from Sector-119 in Noida. They were heading to Delhi, but things turned scary when police tried to stop the cab for a routine check near a barricade.
Eyewitnesses and a viral video recorded by the passengers show the driver ignoring the cops’ signals. He sped up, jumped over barricades, and drove dangerously on busy roads. The family can be heard begging him to stop, with cries like “Bhaiya, please gadi rok do” echoing in the clip. The child was crying, and the parents feared for their lives as the car swerved and nearly hit other vehicles. It was like a scene from a movie, but this was real life, and it could have ended badly.
Police from the Phase-3 station in Noida quickly gave chase. After a tense pursuit, they caught up with the cab and arrested the driver. The vehicle, a white Wagon R, was seized right away. Officers issued a heavy fine of Rs 29,500 for traffic violations like reckless driving. During questioning, the big surprise came, Nasim had two Aadhaar cards on him. One was in his real name, Nasim, from Palwal district in Haryana. The other was fake, under the name ‘Sonu’. Investigators say he used this false identity to book rides and avoid getting caught for past issues, like unpaid traffic fines or other minor offenses.
Why did he run? Police believe Nasim panicked because his cab had pending challans, and he didn’t want to face the heat. By posing as ‘Sonu’, a common name that might not raise flags, he thought he could stay under the radar. This isn’t the first time fake IDs have popped up in cab scams around Noida—earlier this year, cops busted a gang using hundreds of phony Aadhaar cards to cheat ride companies. But in this case, it put innocent people at risk.
The family, shaken but safe, filed a complaint. They praised the police for acting fast. Uber, the app involved, responded quickly too. A spokesperson said they were horrified by the behavior and have suspended the driver while investigating. “Safety is our top priority, and such actions won’t be tolerated,” they stated.
Local residents are worried. Noida and Greater Noida see a lot of cab rides daily, especially with people commuting to Delhi. This event has sparked calls for better background checks on drivers. As of now, Nasim is in custody, facing charges for endangering lives, using fake documents, and traffic crimes.
