Gorakhpur, August 17, 2025 – In a big step toward cleaner energy, Uttar Pradesh’s first green hydrogen production and blending facility was inaugurated today in Gorakhpur’s Khanimpur area by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Set up by Torrent Gas and Torrent Power, this plant is not only the state’s first but also India’s second, marking a milestone in sustainable energy efforts. The event drew a large crowd, with local leaders and residents celebrating the move toward a greener future.
The plant will mix green hydrogen with CNG and PNG for household and industrial use, reducing reliance on traditional fuels. CM Yogi called it a game-changer, saying, “Green hydrogen is the energy of tomorrow. It will cut pollution and protect our health.” He planted a rudraksh tree at the site, symbolizing environmental care, and toured the facility. He also praised Uttar Pradesh’s rich water resources, which make it ideal for producing green hydrogen, a clean fuel made from water using renewable energy.
The launch aligns with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of net-zero carbon emissions. Yogi emphasized that this plant will help fight climate change and reduce diseases caused by pollution. “We’re moving toward a healthier, cleaner UP,” he said. The facility is expected to save 500 tons of carbon emissions annually, a small but meaningful step toward sustainability.
Local MP Ravi Kishan called the plant a “new energy revolution” for Gorakhpur, while Torrent Group’s director, Jinal Mehta, thanked the state for its investor-friendly policies, saying, “UP offers a red carpet, not red tape.” However, some x users expressed concerns about the high cost of green hydrogen, though Yogi assured that, like mobile phones, it will become affordable over time.
The event ended with optimism, as Gorakhpur takes its place as a leader in India’s clean energy push. With plans to expand such projects, UP aims to become a green energy hub by 2028.
