Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh – Uttar Pradesh’s first State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) in Gorakhpur is scheduled to open its doors on September 25, 2025, marking a significant step in bolstering the region’s hospitality sector. With over 95% of the first phase of construction completed, the ₹48.39 crore project, located opposite the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) office, is in its final stages, according to the Tourism Department. The institute promises to offer diploma and degree programs in hotel, tourism, and hospitality management starting next academic session.
Launched on September 26, 2023, the project has already utilized ₹38.30 crore to develop modern facilities, including training kitchens, classrooms, administrative offices, a common hall, underground parking, and fire safety systems. The second phase, which includes student hostels, is underway with an additional budget of ₹46.81 crore. Deputy Director of Tourism Ravindra Kumar Mishra highlighted that the institute aims to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in Gorakhpur’s booming hospitality industry, driven by the arrival of major hotel chains.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision to position Gorakhpur as a hub for hospitality education is coming to fruition, with the SIHM expected to train over 400 students initially. The courses will follow global standards, ensuring graduates are job-ready for local and international opportunities. The institute’s strategic location and modern infrastructure are designed to empower local youth, reducing the need to seek education elsewhere.
The project has sparked excitement among residents, who see it as a game-changer for employment and tourism in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Social media is abuzz with anticipation, with many praising the initiative for its potential to uplift the region’s economy. As finishing touches are applied, the SIHM is poised to become a beacon of opportunity, blending education with the growing hospitality needs of Gorakhpur.
