Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, 11 August – The judicial community in Ghaziabad is in mourning after the sudden death of District and Sessions Judge Ashish Garg. The 52-year-old judge suffered a fatal heart attack at Yashoda Hospital in Indirapuram, just a day after undergoing hernia surgery. His untimely passing has left colleagues and family in deep shock.
According to hospital sources, Garg had a successful hernia operation on Sunday, August 10, and was recovering well. On Monday morning, while in the hospital washroom, he suddenly collapsed. Doctors rushed to save him, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead around 1:30 PM due to a massive heart attack. His son, who was at the hospital, witnessed the tragic moment, adding to the family’s grief.
Ashish Garg, originally from Muradnagar in Muzaffarnagar district, was a respected figure in Uttar Pradesh’s judiciary. He began his career in Mathura and later served as Registrar General at the Allahabad High Court for two years. Appointed as Ghaziabad’s District Judge on May 5, 2025, he was known for his fairness, discipline, and kind demeanor. Lawyers and court staff remember him as a gentle and honest judge who earned admiration for his work.
Police have ruled out foul play, but the incident has sparked discussions about post-surgical care. Garg’s family has raised concerns about possible lapses at the hospital, prompting calls for an inquiry. Authorities are awaiting the postmortem report to confirm the exact cause of death, though initial findings point to cardiac arrest.
The news has sent ripples through Ghaziabad’s legal circles. Senior advocates and court staff gathered at the district court to pay their respects, with many describing Garg’s death as a huge loss to the judiciary. His father, Rameshwar Swarup Garg, also served as an Additional District Judge in Ghaziabad years ago, making the family’s connection to the city deep-rooted.
