Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, July 30, 2025 – A shocking incident unfolded in Meerut’s Purwa Shekhlal area on Wednesday evening when notorious gangster Salim, alias Mogli, was gunned down in broad daylight. The attack took place around 6:00 PM when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Salim, firing multiple shots before fleeing the scene. The brazen murder has sent shockwaves through the city, raising concerns about rising gang violence.
Salim, a resident of the Lohianagar area and a known history-sheeter under the Nauchandi police station, was reportedly involved in property dealing and transport businesses. According to police sources, he had a criminal record with over a dozen cases, including charges of murder and extortion. He had been released from jail on Saturday, July 26, and was attending a court hearing for one of his cases earlier that day. The attack occurred just 50 meters from the Hashimpura police chowki, highlighting the audacity of the perpetrators.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the gunshots rang out in the busy Purwa Shekhlal area. “We heard four or five loud shots, and people started running. Salim fell to the ground, and the attackers sped off on their bike,” said a local shopkeeper, who requested anonymity. Residents rushed to the spot, but Salim was already motionless. Police arrived promptly, cordoned off the area, and sent the body for a post-mortem examination at a nearby hospital.
Salim’s family is in shock, demanding justice. “He had enemies, but this was brutal. We want the killers caught,” said a relative. As the investigation continues, Meerut remains on edge, with authorities under pressure to curb the rising tide of gang-related violence.
