Jaunpur, August 9, 2025 – The Jaunpur district administration has taken a strong stance against illegal land encroachment, issuing notices to over 1,600 individuals involved in the unauthorized occupation of public land. This move has sent shockwaves among property owners, as the administration cracks down on constructions built on lands meant for public use, such as lakes, parks, and green spaces.
According to District Magistrate Dr. Dinesh Chandra, the notices were sent after a thorough review of old records and on-ground inspections. The administration identified lands under the Jaunpur Master Plan that were designated for public utility but have been illegally occupied. The notices demand clarity on how these structures were approved and built on restricted lands.
This large-scale action has caused panic among those who have been served notices, with many now scrambling to justify their claims. The administration’s strict approach signals a broader effort to reclaim public spaces and ensure compliance with land use regulations. Sources say the crackdown targets not just individuals but also influential figures and institutions involved in encroachments.
In a related development, the Allahabad High Court recently issued a contempt notice to Jaunpur’s DM, SDM, and Tehsildar for failing to act on a 2018 order to remove illegal encroachments in Shahganj’s Pura Sarwan village. This has added pressure on the administration to act swiftly and transparently.
