Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, August 5, 2025 – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached out to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone today to express deep sorrow over the devastating cloudburst in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village. The tragic incident, which struck on Tuesday afternoon, claimed at least four lives and left over 50 people missing, including several Indian Army soldiers. CM Yogi assured his counterpart of full support from the Uttar Pradesh government to aid relief and rescue efforts.
The cloudburst triggered a massive landslide and flash floods, washing away homes, hotels, and an Army camp in the Harsil Valley. Rescue operations, involving the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and ITBP, are underway, with around 130 people evacuated so far. CM Yogi described the event as “heart-wrenching” and pledged resources to help Uttarakhand manage the crisis. His call came as part of a broader response from national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, who also spoke with CM Dhami to ensure swift action.
During the conversation, Yogi emphasized Uttar Pradesh’s readiness to assist with manpower, medical aid, or any other resources needed. The gesture reflects the close coordination between the two BJP-ruled states, with Yogi and Dhami sharing a history of mutual support, notably during the 2022 Champawat bypoll when Yogi campaigned for Dhami.
Uttarakhand authorities have declared holidays for schools in several districts, including Almora and Pithoragarh, due to heavy rain warnings. The rising Ganga River levels have also prompted police to urge caution near ghats. Meanwhile, CM Dhami, who visited the Disaster Management Authority Centre in Dehradun, is overseeing relief efforts, with ₹20 crore released from the State Disaster Response Fund.
The tragedy has united leaders across states in a shared mission to support Uttarkashi’s affected families. As rescue efforts continue, Yogi’s assurance underscores the importance of collective action in times of crisis.
