Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, August 24, 2025: A shocking video has gone viral showing a local BJP worker, Munna Bahadur Singh, attacking a Dalit superintending engineer with a shoe right inside his government office. The incident, which happened on Saturday, has sparked widespread anger over violence and abuse of power. Police quickly stepped in and arrested Singh, but questions remain about why such attacks still happen in broad daylight.
The victim, Lal Singh, works in the electricity department in Ballia. According to reports, Singh was sitting at his desk when a group of around 20-25 men, led by Munna Bahadur Singh, barged in. They demanded he approve some pending work, but things turned ugly fast. The video captures Singh being hit on the head with a shoe, punched, and verbally abused with caste slurs. “They threatened to kill me and used horrible words against my community,” Lal Singh told reporters later, still shaken from the ordeal. He suffered injuries but is now stable after getting medical help.
Munna Bahadur Singh, who claims to be a former BJP functionary, was caught on camera leading the charge. Witnesses say the group acted like they owned the place, ignoring office staff who tried to stop them. Police filed a case under sections for assault, using caste insults, and criminal intimidation. Singh was arrested within hours, and officials are now hunting for the other men involved. “We’ve taken swift action based on the complaint and the video evidence,” said a senior police officer in Ballia.
This isn’t just another fight, it highlights deeper issues like political bullying in rural Uttar Pradesh. Local activists point out that Dalit officers often face threats when they refuse illegal demands. The BJP has distanced itself, saying Singh is no longer an active member, but critics argue the party needs to crack down on such behavior.
As the video spreads on social media, people are calling for stricter laws and faster justice. Opposition leaders have slammed the state government, demanding a probe into whether political connections delayed action. For now, Lal Singh’s family is relieved about the arrest but worried about safety. “We want the court to punish them harshly so no one else suffers,” his relative said.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, with forensic teams checking the office for more clues. This case could set an example if handled right, but it also reminds us how far we still have to go to end such violence in India.
