Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh – A shocking video from the office of Auraiya’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rakesh Kumar Singh has led to his immediate removal from the post of SDM Sadar. The CCTV footage, which went viral on social media on August 19, 2025, shows the mandi secretary placing an envelope on the SDM’s desk, which Rakesh Kumar later picks up and slips into his pocket. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about corruption in the district’s administration.
The video, reportedly leaked by an employee in the SDM’s office, captures the mandi secretary placing the envelope in a rack while Rakesh Kumar is seated at his desk. After the secretary leaves, the SDM calmly takes the envelope and tucks it away. The footage spread rapidly online, prompting swift action from the district administration. District Magistrate Indramani Tripathi ordered Rakesh Kumar’s removal and reassigned him to the district headquarters, appointing Ajay Anand Verma as the new SDM Sadar. An investigation has been handed over to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Avinash Chandra to probe the matter further.
Rakesh Kumar, who has been linked to previous controversies, including holding court sessions on holidays, is now under scrutiny for alleged bribery. The viral video has fueled public anger, with many questioning how such acts can occur so openly in a government office. Social media platforms are buzzing with discussions, with users demanding stricter accountability for officials.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about corruption in Uttar Pradesh’s administrative system, particularly in less developed districts like Auraiya. Local residents are calling for a thorough investigation and harsh penalties for those found guilty. As the probe continues, the administration is under pressure to restore public trust and ensure such incidents are not repeated. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for transparency and vigilance in governance.
