Agra, Uttar Pradesh – On August 5, 2025, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Atalpuram Township, a massive housing project by the Agra Development Authority (ADA), marking its first such scheme in 36 years. Spread over 138 hectares along the Gwalior Highway in Kakua and Bhandai, this modern township promises to transform the city’s skyline, just 12 kilometers from the Taj Mahal. With a price tag of Rs 2,242 crore, it’s a big bet on Agra’s future, and locals are already lining up for a piece of it.
The Atalpuram scheme, rolled out in three phases, kicked off with 637 residential plots across three sectors. Priced at Rs 29,500 per square meter, these plots cater to low, middle, and high-income groups, with sizes ranging from 40 to 180 square meters. Commercial plots go for Rs 59,000 per square meter, while public spaces like roads and parks are valued at Rs 4,250 per square meter. Want to apply? It’s all online through ADA’s Janhit portal, with a non-refundable Rs 1,100 fee. Reserved categories like SC, ST, ex-servicemen, and seniors pay 5% of the plot price as a deposit, while others pay 10%. A lottery system will decide who gets a plot, with 154 applications already in and 92 approved.
This township isn’t just about houses. It’s loaded with modern perks: underground utilities, 24/7 water supply via SCADA, CCTV surveillance, and green parks. A convention center and a hotel with “Taj View” suites, built on a PPP model, will add a tourism boost, with the Taj Mahal visible from rooms. The project, covering 340 acres, bought land from farmers at four times the circle rate, costing Rs 784 crore, showing a farmer-friendly approach.
Chief Minister Yogi, during his three-hour Agra visit, also greenlit Rs 1,753 crore in development projects, though heavy rain scrapped a planned public rally. The buzz on X shows excitement, users are calling it a game-changer for Agra’s real estate. But some locals worry about affordability, given the steep plot prices. With registrations open since August 8, Atalpuram is Agra’s big shot at modern living, hoping it delivers.
